Protecting Your Home 11/08/2009
Why you should not let your guard down in these economic times. When the economy is down, crime rates do go up. Here are some tips for protecting your home: 1. Lock-up - Yes, simple and obvious, but do you do it? When you leave the house, lock all your doors, close and lock all your windows. Criminals are lazy, and will be happy to steal from you if you make it easy! 2. Team-up - Team up with your neighbors. Tell your neighbors who belongs and who doesn't. Call each other's cell phone of you see anything remotely unusual. 3. Surprise! - Do your best to change up your schedule. Criminals canvassing your block will move on if they see you coming and going at different times of day. Go home for lunch, or work from home occasionally to change up your schedule. 4. Remove Hiding Places - Clear debris, trim bushes and trees away from the house. This will remove possible hiding places for criminals to sneak around your home. 5. Light up - Installing a simple motion detector light can be a big help. Criminals who are canvassing or testing a neighborhood will shy away from homes that have good lighting. Motion lights save energy and draw more attention from homeowners and neighbors. 6. Consider getting a Home Wireless Security Systems installed - If you are gone from home often, your home is hidden from street view, or would like that extra peace of mind, you may want to get an alarm. A professionally installed alarm can alert you if a door or window is opened at night. It will sound an alarm, contact you and then police if set off while you are away. It can even be connected to smoke or CO sensors to detect fire. Be sure to select a reputable company that has references in your neighborhood. Source: George Varela- george@gvis.biz.
